Developed by the company Striking Distance Studios and founded by Glen Schofield, one of the creators of Dead Space himself, along with about 30 people already working on the license, Callisto Protocol is apparently following in the latter’s footsteps. A horror game set in space, set in the Dark Iron Prison on Callisto, one of Jupiter’s moons. Stand in the shoes of prisoner Jacob Lee, and your goal is to survive an already less idyllic scene full of aggressive aliens. A visceral confrontation, apparently transcribed with such a high level of gore in the game, that it prevented the title from landing in Japan.
Not complying with CERO (the Japanese equivalent of ESRB or PEGI) restrictions and thus refusing to officially sell in the territory, the Callisto Protocol has only one option to circumvent the problem to reduce its level of violence. The development team rejected the solution, arguing that it would modify the game experience and distort the overall feel. So one stance that has resulted in the cancellation of the game on Japanese soil is purely simple, and the good news is – money-back guarantees for pre-orders.
