In less than six months, Apple will announce the upcoming iPhone 14 series. As rumors start to heat up, some of the features on these new phones are all but confirmed. Read on as we round up four of these we’d like to see on the iPhone 14.
no mini version
It’s been a while since we heard that iPhone mini sales have disappointed Apple. Now, 9to5Mac Sources recently confirmed that we won’t see another phone with the 14 series.
According to our sources, the new iPhone 14 (codenames D27 and D28) will be available in 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch versions, while the Pro models (codenames D73 and D74) may be slightly taller to accommodate the new punch-hole + pill design.
So if you’re looking for a smaller phone, you’ll have to choose the new iPhone SE 3 and its “iconic design.”
Different designs between regular and professional models
The iPhone 14 Pro will feature a new punch-hole + pill design. This will be the first time Apple has moved from the iPhone X look to a new approach. That said, this new design will be exclusive to the Pro models, as the regular version will likely keep the same notch as the iPhone 13, which is 30 percent smaller than the one on the iPhone 12.
Analyst Ross Young also confirmed the report, saying that all models will feature the same design again in 2023. Until then, if you want the latest design, you’ll have to go with the Pro model.
A15 Bionic for iPhone 14, A16 Bionic for iPhone 14 Pro
9to5Mac Independent source and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said Apple could break with tradition this year and release some iPhone 14 models with the same A15 chip as the iPhone 13.
The A15 chip will power the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 and 6.7-inch 14 Max, although the RAM will be upgraded from 4 GB to 6 GB. The new A16 SoC will be reserved for the higher-end, more expensive 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max models.
As of now, it’s unclear whether Apple will rename the A15 chip for the regular 14 phones, such as the A15X, or switch to a more powerful version on the iPhone 13 Pro.
48MP main sensor for iPhone 14 Pro
Another great feature of the iPhone 14 Pro is the 48MP wide sensor. Analyst Guo Mingchi first proposed, BloombergMark Gurman is the latest to report on this new feature.
While 48MP unlocks new features, Apple will likely continue to take photos at 12MP, which you can read more about here. All lenses on regular iPhone 14 models will feature 12MP sensors.
wrap up
There are more rumors about this upcoming phone. For example, Apple may add satellite communications to the 2022 iPhones. It was initially rumored that this would work on the 13 model, but it didn’t work out in the end. In addition to that, all of the above features are likely to be part of the iPhone 14.
