The iPhone 14 Pro series will have another key advantage over the standard iPhone. A new report from Mark Gurman suggests that Apple will eventually introduce an always-on display with an “always-on” feature. This feature will be exclusive to the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. This confirms an earlier assertion by another prominent analyst in the display space.
- Apple to introduce ‘always-on’ feature on iPhone 14 Pro
- The iOS 16 lock screen can enable the always-on feature with widget support.
- The iPhone 14 Pro will also feature the faster A16 chipset.
Although the iPhone 13 Pro is equipped with LTPO display technology, the adaptive refresh rate is still limited to 10Hz, which is why Apple cannot integrate the aforementioned functions. But that should happen to the 2022 iPhone Pro, thanks to an improved Pro Motion display that can drop the refresh rate down to 1Hz.
Improved lock screen in iOS 16
Apple will also unveil its iOS 16 at WWDC 2022 next week, which includes an improved lock screen. This update will enable the “always-on” feature of the iPhone 14 Pro series. According to Gurman, widgets can be displayed on the lock screen in addition to the basic wallpaper.
Not only will iOS 16 be officially released, we’ll also see the arrival of iPadOS 16 and watchOS 9, and the company has a chance to hint at a “realityOS” or “rOS” hybrid Apple for the first real-world headset.

Apple A16 is faster on iPhone 14 Pro models
In addition to a better screen, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max can also be equipped with a new A16 processor based on a 5nm process. As for the difference, the upcoming CPU will have a slight boost in CPU speed and graphics performance. However, its 5 LPDDR memory is much faster compared to the current 4X LPDDR in the A15.
Additionally, the iPhone 14 Pro duo is expected to feature a pill-shaped FaceID and front-facing camera, while the standard iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max will retain the currently prominent notch. A keynote presentation of the iPhone 14, Watch Series 8 and the new Airpods Pro is expected to take place globally in September 2022.
