After last week’s Comet DioField Chronicle (12,000 copies), it’s another Square Enix JRPG that has passed like a shadow in the charts, especially if we refer to its glorious history.
With 40,360 sales, Valkyrie Elysium is logically inferior to all its predecessors, whether the original game on PSone (311,630 units in 1999 for a total of 660,000 copies), the sequel on PS2 (302,867 units for a total of 400,000 copies) or even get rid of On the Nintendo DS (73,779, 150,000 on arrival). With generations following and updating each other, the promise of action RPGs on home consoles runs counter to the reality of the current market.
Another JRPG set to hit theaters on September 29, The Legend of Heroes: Black Trails II – CRIMSON SiN – continues to draw around 50,000 players as in the previous episode, showing that the core of the goal still exists at the exit, even as we share the same relationship with The Legend of Heroes : Road to Cold Steel was a far cry from the performances it recorded at the time, at least for the first three installments, which amassed nearly 150,000 players at launch. For their part, the Dragon Quest X Offline restock allowed Switch version sales to go from week to week without breaking the ceiling.
Last word on FIFA 23, which achieved 21,000 units on PS4, 11,800 units on its Legacy version of the Switch, and 7,400 units on PS5.
