Mercedes-AMG, with the help of rapper will.i.am, has created a car that appears to blend styling cues borrowed from the G-Class with the silhouette of a coupe. While the model has yet to be revealed, dark-colored sketches suggest it will look nothing like the rest of the company’s lineup.
“Will.i.am has built a car for Mercedes-AMG that will help fund engineering projects in inner-city schools and prepare our young people for a technological tomorrow,” the musician’s website says A statement released read. The site also notes that the mystery car will be unveiled on May 5, 2022.
What we’ve seen so far is puzzling, to say the least. Up front, the lights, grille and rectangular panels that mount them are clearly inspired by G-Class installations. One notable difference is that the front bumper appears to be integrated into the front end, like many sedans and coupes. It’s a separate part on the G. The hood is much more rounded than the SUV, and the fenders are flared.
Side views are darker, but we can clearly see that the roofline is coupe-like and relatively low, a word we would never use to describe the G. We’re guessing it’s a G-Class inspired and not based on the G-Class, but AMG might throw a curveball at us.
More details on the puzzling concept — and the program it’s designed for — will emerge in the coming days.
