One of the most popular GBA localizations was the hit RPG of 2006 mother 3. We heard back in February that the game’s producer Shinichi Kameoka “would love to see” this particular entry released globally, so why hasn’t that happened?
On the latest episode of the Kit & Krysta podcast on YouTube, Kameoka was asked during a fan Q&A why he didn’t think “Mother 3” was released outside of Japan. Here is the full exchange:
“question For Mr Kameoka (I’m sure many will ask) – any idea why Mother 3 is not released outside of Japan? What do you think are the chances of it being released? I really want to support it and recommend it to friends”
Kameoka Shinichi: “I personally think the biggest selling point of Mother 3 is Shigeru Itoi’s unique writing style; translating the charm and nuances of his work into other languages was quite a challenge, perhaps that’s why it took so long to consider Launching the international version of Mother 3.”
With no official local release, fans in the West have taken care of things themselves with a fantastic fan-made translation patch. Reggie, the former president of Nintendo of America, has also previously joked about the return of Mother 3.
