While demand for the Switch remains strong, Nintendo is reportedly bracing for a decline in hardware sales.
According to Nikkei Asia, the Japanese video game giant expects to “only sell about 20 million Switch consoles” this fiscal year, which would be a 10% decrease from fiscal 2021. Nikkei went on to explain how it learned of this that “semiconductor shortages and disruption of logistics networks” were contributing factors.
That figure would be down 30 percent from fiscal 2020, when Switch sales hit 28.83 million units in the same period. In fiscal 2021, Switch sales are estimated to be around 23 million units (down 20%).
To address this, Nintendo apparently intends to “sell more” Switch software this fiscal year. The 2022 calendar so far includes games such as Mario Striker: Battle League, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Splatoon 3 and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
