After merging with Oppo last year, OnePlus may surprise us again. The brand would consider making its Nord line a sub-brand or a completely separate company. To mark the occasion, the new Nord brand could launch an affordable flagship that runs under a new interface based on OxygenOS.
- Nord can become a brand in its own right and launch a flagship product
- Smartphones will run under a new user interface based on OxygenOS
After entering the Android smartphone market with the OnePlus One in 2014, OnePlus launched its first mid-range smartphone, the OnePlus Nord, in 2020. A true range of several smartphones targeting different budgets is established on the market. However, the next step in the evolution of the OnePlus Nord line could be to become more independent.
According to magazine rumors moving indians, OnePlus intends to make Nord a sub-brand, or even an independent company. Therefore, the Chinese manufacturer will follow its rivals, such as Xiaomi with Poco or Oppo with Realme.

OnePlus’ goal is to build Nord into an independent brand with its own brand identity, sales network and team. If the separation happens, “Nord by OnePlus” will launch its own smartphone with the peculiarity of a stronger offline presence. In addition to third-party resellers, Nord will rely on its own stores and develop a comprehensive ecosystem covering multiple product categories.
The Nord will go upmarket, not OnePlus. The realization of Nord independence will be the launch of a new affordable flagship that runs on a new user interface based on OxygenOS. OnePlus could focus on the ultra-premium market, leaving the mid-range space for the Nord.
It all reminds me a little of Huawei’s relationship with Honor. The Chinese giant nurtured Glory for years before letting the young brand take off on its own, albeit forced. We can’t help but think that Xiaomi and Poco can coexist well in the market, even if we no longer really understand Xiaomi’s logic and its scope.
Either way, I personally can’t wait to see what OnePlus does with its Nord lineup. A few years later, the manufacturer managed to establish itself with successful smartphones like the OnePlus Nord 2 or the Nord CE 2. Nord may have the same success as Poco or Realme, we’ll see!

And you, what do you think? Should OnePlus make Nord its own brand? Do you like OnePlus Nord smartphones?
