PlayStation has created a new team focused on game preservation.
A Twitter and LinkedIn post by one of the new hires (as spotted by Video Games Chronicle) revealed that the division will focus on securing the PlayStation IP to “ensure that the history of our industry is not forgotten.”
Garrett Fredley said his new role as senior build engineer was one of PlayStation’s initial hires for the “newly formed conservation team.”
Today is my first day as a Senior Construction Engineer @PlayStationas one of the initial employees of the newly formed Conservation Team!
Game conservation was my first professional passion, so I’m glad I can go back to those roots 😊

Mike Bishop, global QA manager at PlayStation Studios, hired Fredley and said in another post (presumably about the same team): “The day-to-day focus is on IP protection for the enterprise, making sure today’s games are captured, cataloged and made available for tomorrow. escort the game industry.”
Since Fredley was the original employee, the conservation team appears to be still in the early stages, but it appears to be focused on ensuring the longevity of PlayStation games dating back to 1994 when the original console was released.
PlayStation recently announced its new PlayStation Plus tier, the most expensive of which includes access to hundreds of PS1, PS2, and PSP games, showing even more commitment to its retro library.
