Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is a beloved entry in the action-adventure series, developed with Ubisoft Montreal for its original 2003 release.
In September 2020, Ubisoft announced a remake of The Sands of Time, this time developed by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai. Originally slated for a January 2021 release, Ubisoft revealed in late 2020 that the remake had been delayed by two months. Just three months later, Ubisoft announced The Sands of Time was postponed indefinitely, and that’s when fans started wondering what the hell was going on with the remake. It sounds like Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai won’t be able to get their hands on the remake, as now, the publisher has revealed that development of the remake has moved to Ubisoft Montreal, the game’s original creator.
“The development of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake will now be led by Ubisoft Montreal, home of the epic Sands of Time trilogy,” read a statement on Prince of Persia’s official Twitter account. “This decision is an important step and building on the work of Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, the team will now take the time to regroup the game’s scope to give you the best experience – time classic when it’s ready. We’re going to Thank you all for your continued support and patience throughout the development process. Rest assured, we will keep you updated on the progress in future updates.”
As you can see, due to this change, there is no new release date for the remake, which will theoretically be delayed indefinitely. If the project has a release date attached, there’s a good chance today’s news will bring a new delay.
