Pro-Ject is a name that vinyl enthusiasts and regular readers need no fanfare—the company just launched a new line of affordable turntables, the E1 series, that includes optional features like electronic speed control and Bluetooth transmission.
The range includes three different models: E1, E1 Phono SB and E1 BT. All decks have a low-quality synthetic primary platter that sits on top of a high-density resin secondary platter. Interestingly (unlike many competitors in this class) the spindle is polished stainless steel, mounted in a low-friction brass bearing well.
The turntable also features an attractive solid MDF base and an aluminium tonearm with a factory-installed Ortofon OM5 cartridge (about £45, $70 or AU$109 if bought separately). Additionally, all models include a DC motor with electronic speed selection for 33 and 45 rpm records.
As their names suggest, the E1 Phono SB models add a built-in phono preamp, while the E1 BT offers a Bluetooth audio transmitter that can send the music spinning on your turntable to your Bluetooth headphones or a separate bluetooth speaker.
Available in high-gloss black, satin white or satin walnut finishes, the Pro-Ject E1 series will be available later this month. The Pro-Ject E1 is $349 (about £279 or AU$489), the Pro-Ject E1 Phono SB is $399 (about £319 or AU$560), and the Pro-Ject E1 BT has an MSRP of $499 (about £399 or AU$700).
