Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier once again dismissed the last doubts: Instead of developing in Aspyr, Texas, he worked on a project that was too big for him for two years, and instead commissioned the KOTOR remake to “One of Sabre Interactive’s Eastern European studios”, reports a Bloomberg reporter. The result is not surprising when we know that Sabre Interactive’s management has announced that it will come to the rescue before the development issues make headlines on the professional site.
As a reminder, Aspyr is one of 20 studios at Sabre Interactive, itself one of 11 subsidiaries of the sprawling Embracer group. Sabre Interactive recently released Evil Dead: The Game and is developing Space Marine 2 on behalf of Focus. So, in a sense, the KOTOR remake was already in the hands of Sabre Interactive, but now it’s in the hands of another team.
When announcing the results of Embracer and its more-or-less-sounding new acquisition last week, management mentioned moving AAA games from one studio to another, but didn’t make it any more explicit. Thanks to the information previously published by Bloomberg, it became clear that this was about the KOTOR remake escaping Aspyr.
The impact of the studio change on development plans is still undetermined. Jason Schreier insists that the remake is apparently at least another two years away from being released. In fact, if Embracer had made shareholders aware of this change in the studio”No major delays“, which may simply be because the project never announced a launch window.
