The May 2022 security patch rollout is in full swing. After releasing the May Update for a handful of Galaxy smartphones and tablets, Samsung has finally published an official changelog on its monthly tracker.
As usual, the new security patches include fixes for the Android operating system released by Google and bug fixes in Samsung’s own software. Google addressed seven critical vulnerability projects and more than a dozen high- and medium-severity security vulnerabilities.
Samsung addresses weather, setup wizard, Galaxy Themes security flaws
As for Samsung’s efforts to improve security, the May 2022 security patch addresses a moderately inappropriate access control vulnerability in the Weather app that affects Galaxy devices running Android 10, Android 11, and Android 12.
The company also addressed a “high” severity issue that would allow attackers to launch arbitrary activities with system privileges (Android 11 and 12).
Also, fixed an issue that allowed packages to be installed before the installation wizard completed (Android 11 and 12 devices).
And also fixed another “high” severity vulnerability that could allow an attacker to uninstall arbitrary packages without permission due to the Galaxy Themes vulnerability.
The changelog for the May 2022 security patch also mentions some other low-brand security vulnerabilities affecting Galaxy devices running Android 10, Android 11, and Android 12.
Finally, the latest patch fixes some mysterious security holes that the company didn’t disclose in its May changelog for security reasons. Samsung will eventually reveal the fixes in a future security patch once enough Galaxy devices get the update when it launches in May. We will notify you as usual.
