Repeat.gg aims to make esports more accessible, using an automated system touted as easy to use to track player performance. According to a press release issued by the platform, SIE’s acquisition of it will be synonymous with new resources that will allow it to expand its organizational capabilities and implement new features for millions of players over the next few years. To force a clarification, Repeat.gg is still an agnostic platform compatible with PC, mobile and all consoles on the market, not just PlayStation. The company says it has hosted more than 100,000 tournaments with 2.3 million participants since its inception.
“At PlayStation, our vision for esports has always been to break down barriers and allow players to compete at every level. Together with the talented team at Repeat.gg, we’re excited to explore new ways to engage players in competitive play and expand our esports offerings. This is just the beginning of our journey and we look forward to sharing more updates with our community in the future.” commented Steven Roberts, vice president of competitive gaming at Sony Interactive Entertainment.
In addition to co-organizing Evo with RTS Corporation, Sony Interactive Entertainment has been organizing its PlayStation Championships directly through its consoles for years. Last year, players won $5 million in 8,000 games.
