Why watch a movie in theaters when you can watch it on a tiny pixelated screen
It’s no secret that some directors can be pretentious directors (or at least some can understand that), so hearing Christopher Nolan (director of The Prestige, Inception, Interstellar) make a film that’s already in theaters as early as 2020 Tenet stinks. Due to the prospect of this meme-worthy meme at a time when people are keeping their distance, it’s a prime target for trolling, which is exactly why one enterprising user on Twitter has loaded the movie onto Little Black’s cute new handheld White pixelated screen of the gaming device Playdate.
In 2020, Nolan argued in a Washington Post article that theaters were indeed suffering, which soon led to a flurry of articles claiming that Nolan only wanted to see his films in theaters, and successfully turned it into a kind of emoji. Well, memes always bring in some laughs, so someone loaded the movie on Playdate as a funny bash on Nolan.
ANDROIDPOLICE video of the day
Twitter user jae (@jkap) cleverly loads a copy of Tenet onto the tiny Playdate. It’s a device that offers 400×240 pixel resolution on a 2.7-inch panel, for a total of 173 pixels per inch, and the screen is not backlit. That’s why it’s the perfect trolling target for a theater-quality movie, and it’s probably the worst way to watch it. Prove that a little ingenuity can turn your dreams into memes.
The real deal is that you can fast forward and rewind movies with the Playdate’s hand crank, which does factor in those old Blockbuster rewind charges. Imagine manually rewinding a video rental. no thanks.
As such, the newly released Playdate appears to be a little more tricky than initially suspected. Not only is it a cute little device that makes it easy to play a variety of original games, but enterprising users can load video content thanks to its easy-to-use development software Great for tiny black and white screens. Now if I can figure out how to get one without waiting until 2023.
