A must-have retro revival series of the past decade, Shovel Knight is off to a good start with its mix of Mega Man and Duck Tale. Smelling the right veins, Yacht Club Games has been able to take the shovel knight’s adventure in various sequels, while venturing into other genres in recent years, including shovel knight showdowns and pocket dungeons. There’s one more step to go: the purest roguelite, with its three-quarter-hour run time, its little camp growing. The publisher was clearly attracted to the idea of making a mobile game and thought it would be a good idea to ask seasoned studio Nitrome to make it a new kind of Downwell. On paper, why not, but Shovel Knight Dig is seriously lacking in focus in several key ways.
