The Day Before – the open-world survival MMO currently at the top of Steam’s most popular games chart – is switching to Unreal Engine 5, but will therefore be delayed until March 1, 2023.
Revealed exclusively by IGN, developer Fntastic released a statement explaining that the game will be moving to an advanced new engine, but will also have to delay its June 21 release.
“Millions of people have added The Day Before to their wishlists, making The Day Before as one of the most anticipated games in the world,” the statement read.
“Feeling and understanding the great responsibility we face, and with immense gratitude, we are pleased to announce that The Day Before is switching to new Unreal Engine 5 technology! Transitioning to a more advanced and adaptable open world The engine that will make The Day Before gameplay even more exciting.
“In response, we inform you that the game’s new release date is March 1, 2023.”
The Day Before is a gritty open-world MMO designed to combine survival gameplay with deep combat, vehicle gameplay, and even social elements inspired by the likes of Animal Crossing. Even before the switch to Unreal 5, the game aimed for high-end visuals, showing off a 4K ray-tracing trailer.
