To summarize:
Software updates for iPhone, iPad and other devices.
iOS 16 for iPhone
If you use an iPhone, you can expect a new operating system this year. iOS 16 should first bring a new visual breath to the operating system.
locksrcreen has been completely redesigned to not only bring notifications and access to the camera, but also take into account widgets, more personalized backgrounds and colors, which you can choose from styles that you can apply right away. As with many Android smartphones, you can further customize them – in terms of fonts, applying filters and integrating apps.

Apple’s lock screen is not only prettier, but more functional than ever. In the meantime, Apple can thus prepare its Always On, which may launch alongside the next iPhone.
As mentioned, Apple is also changing the way notifications are displayed. For one thing, notifications slide from the bottom of the screen to the top, rather than appearing all at once – but more interesting are “live events,” which let you see, for example, whether a meal you ordered is about to be delivered.
Focus Mode, introduced last year, has also been expanded to now filter your navigation tabs. Also new are the edit and undo features in the Messages app, as well as the “Shared with You” extension. If you use dictation, you can finally leave the keyboard open and make changes with your fingers.

AI font autoplay now also works on videos. Apple has also added conversion shortcuts, such as one-time currency reads.

iPadOS 16
Nearly an hour and a half later, Apple turned its attention to the iPadOS 16 tablet operating system, and the first highlight should be the Weather app on the iPad — and if that’s not enough for you, the tablet will soon be available on its flagships. Better functionality for collaborating with others on apps like Keynote and Pages, and third-party apps like Google’s Workspace. You will be able to share documents with others and edit them together.

Apple also announced the “Freeform” app at WWDC 2022. I describe it as a design-oriented project planner that you can use as a foundation for collaborative work. You can drag and drop documents onto the background, draw on them, and share everything again with colleagues or friends.
With desktop-class apps, Apple adds significant functionality to apps designed for the iPad. For example, you can display the size of a folder in the Finder, or configure the taskbar individually in the application. With Reference Mode, your iPad can be used as a reference screen for color grading or image manipulation in the future.

In addition to a new resize mode that lets you see more content on the iPad, Apple is also introducing a new window manager on the iPad. Multitasking on the iPad will become more efficient and will allow for multiple windows on one screen for the first time. Just like on a Mac or Macbook, you can resize and layer them – thanks to the scene manager, they’re neatly grouped together again.
Watch OS 9
For the Apple Watch, Apple is starting with new watch faces and other design tweaks, which we’ll show you in detail in our watchOS 9 review. More interesting, however, are the new fitness modes—for runners, Apple uses Apple Watch motion data to measure your vertical movement, ground contact time, or stride length. While tracking your runs, you can use the crown to scroll through these important stats. Until now, such running metrics have existed, for example, on Garmin smartwatches that use special chest straps.

There will also be new heart rate zones in Apple Watch, and you’ll be able to do your own workouts, such as interval training for a run or a run based on the time of your last race. If you jump on the bike directly after a run or jump into the water during a triathlon, watchOS 9 automatically detects when you switch sports.
macOS 13
Apple’s new Mac operating system is called “Ventura,” after a small town in California. With Stage Manager, Apple (eventually) improved the management of open windows and provided extensions to Mission Control or its task scheduler. You’ll be able to focus on one app and see previews of other open windows on your left.
If you need multiple windows, you can easily layer them and the Stage Manager will save your composition. Plus, you can return to your desktop and seamlessly find your Stage Manager window with just one click.

🔎 Apple’s cross-system search engine Spotlight has also been updated. By pressing the space bar, you can preview in the search, just like in the Finder. On iPhone, you can also find it directly at the bottom of the screen.
Other new features in macOS 13: You can retrieve emails in Mail after sending, use improved search and suggestions, and use it in iOS and iPadOS. Safari should once again be the fastest browser in the world and will support “Shared Tab Groups,” a feature that allows you to share browsing tabs with friends, such as planning a vacation together.
Finally, in macOS 13, Apple introduced password removal. Instead, you’ll need to use a “pass-through key” that’s based solely on your biometric data and associated with your device in the future. Therefore, your password can no longer be “phished” or hacked, as the identifier is associated with your device, your face and/or your fingerprint.

When it comes to gaming, it’s developer novelties that are touted. The company introduced the “Metal 3” development environment, which will make it possible to scale the game more intelligently in the future. No Man’s Sky, already released in 2016, should be the first to see this. In addition to No Man’s Sky, Resident Evil Village was also released for Apple devices.
Services such as wallet, maps, fitness have been updated.
If you want to pay via smartphone, you can use Wallet to pay in installments in the future. That should make it easy to pay back large sums — though, Apple hasn’t disclosed the exact terms of the funding and its availability in Europe.
Another interesting point: in the map, you can define up to 15 intermediate stops on the route in the future. In the US, Apple provides 3D views for some cities to make it easier to find points of interest. These detailed maps will also help you find transportation such as bicycles or e-scooters, such as your Uber.

Next up is Apple News, which has a new tab in the US called “My Sports.” Here, you’ll see personalized information about your athletic performance.
Many of these services can be shared within families through Family Share. Since you can also create accounts for your children there, there are now new possibilities to limit content and usage time. In the message, your child can ask if you can continue playing their favorite mobile game for ten minutes.
New features have also been introduced, such as the Apple Shared Photo Library, where you can upload photos shared by your family. You can set it up in the Photos app and activate it with the push of a button in the Camera app. The captured photos are then uploaded directly to the shared iCloud. Clever from Apple: The site also lets you set up automatic sharing of photos you take with everyone. In addition to accessing images, changes and edits also apply to all images.

Two new features are coming to FaceTime in the future: On the one hand, thanks to the Continuity feature, you can seamlessly switch from a FaceTime call on your iPhone to a call on your Mac, and use your iPhone wirelessly as a webcam. Features like Studio-Light, Portrait Mode, and Center Stage are available. Apple introduces Desktop View, which shows your keyboard and hands through an ultra-wide camera. We’ll have to find out in testing how exactly this all works.
