On June 6th at 7pm, WWDC 2022 will be held in Cupertino. At its developer conferences, Apple traditionally showcases updates to its iOS, iPadOS, WatchOS, and MacOS operating systems. This year, however, the company may be rolling out entirely new software, and some hardware is also planned. We’ve got you covered with what Apple fans can expect.
- What? Apple WWDC 2022
- Where? In Apple Park, Cupertino
- when? June 6 – 7pm CET
Among the apple eaters, there is a day carved in stone called WWDC (Apple Worldwide Developers Conference). It will take place this year on June 6, 2022 at 7pm Paris time. The new iPhones won’t be shown off at the developer conference, but the event is still a lot of fun for iPhone owners. Indeed, the new iOS 16 should be rolled out.
We summarize the rumors circulating ahead of WWDC below. At the June 6 event, we’ll of course have a live roundup of what Apple will be presenting. Of course, I look forward to reading your WWDC guesses in the comments.
What Apple can show at WWDC 2022
iOS 16, iPadOS 16, WatchOS 9 and the new MacOS
Let’s start with why WWDC got its name. For developers and its fans, Apple traditionally outlines the next version of its operating system. While we’re just summing up speculation from industry insiders and leakers, we’ll likely get the first bits of information during WWDC 2022.
If all goes well, we’ll finally see the introduction of always-on display in iOS 16, as we know it on some Androids. Your smartphone displays information on a small part of the screen, even if you turn it off. Since OLED screens can light up certain pixels in a targeted manner, this technology is surprisingly energy efficient.

Another novelty that Apple may have modified is its use of the launch bar. For one thing, it has to do with the hole-punch front camera on the new iPhone Pro models, which has been the subject of a lot of previous speculation. This will give Apple more room to display symbols or information at the top of the screen.
We should also see these changes in iPadOS, although an iPad with a hole in the screen hasn’t been released yet. According to leaker Mark Gurman, changes should be made to multitasking — a direction that would align perfectly with the performance updates for the latest iPad models. In fact, thanks to the M1 SoC used in the Pro series and iPad Air 2022, there’s bound to be room for more complex multitasking tasks.
Gurman also talked about WatchOS 9, although information has been sparse so far. According to him, the Apple Watch operating system should include improvements to everyday life and navigation. Additionally, there should be a new power saving mode and new watch faces.
MacOS operating system version 13 for MacBook and Mac is in development. According to MacRumors, this release should be called “Mammoth,” where we can find new designs for Messages, Mail, Notes, and Safari apps. But of particular interest to Mac users is a new System Settings app that should take more inspiration from Apple’s mobile devices.
Will there be a new RealityOS?
So far, we’ve focused on familiar Apple products — but in the weeks leading up to WWDC 2022, there’s been talk about the introduction of a new operating system, rOS, which is thought to be short for RealityOS. The name refers to the Apple View virtual or augmented reality glasses, also long known as Apple Glass.

Right now, it’s unclear what RealityOS will look like. After all, we have no idea what the concept of smart glasses from Apple actually looks like. However, a few days before WWDC, a Twitter user revealed that a brand name called RealityOS will be registered globally on June 8, referring to “wearable computing devices.”
So WWDC 2022 could be particularly exciting.
MacBook Air with SoC M2 and new Mac hardware
Many Apple insiders expect the most likely hardware release to be a new MacBook Air. We can’t forget that Apple has only recently updated the design of its MacBook Pro models. Since then, the MacBook Pro has only offered a notch, but with a 120Hz display and a magnetic MagSafe charging port. In addition, new M1 Max and M1 Pro processors have appeared.

However, all these changes are unlikely to make it a cheaper MacBook Air. There are currently rumors of a MacBook Air screen with notch and an M2 chip, which is an evolution of the SoC M1. In the concept image, the MagSafe connector is additionally placed on the left. We hope to see what the 2022 MacBook Air finally has to offer next Monday!
