Xbox users looking to enjoy a solid weekend of gaming time were hampered Saturday after a hiatus that lasted about nine hours. Microsoft posted a tweet around 4 p.m. ET Saturday, acknowledging that some users were unable to purchase and launch games or join cloud gaming sessions. The service Downdetector also recorded a spike in error reporting at that time.
Players can switch to physical discs (if they own a console that even has a disc slot), or theoretically they can play offline. However, as edge Reports, even offline playback doesn’t work for some users.
Microsoft released the update around 1 a.m. ET on Sunday, saying users should no longer experience the issues, though Downdetector noticed some new complaints continued into Sunday morning.
Even more frustrating for players, this is actually the second Xbox network outage so far this weekend. Xbox suffered a similar outage that began late Friday afternoon and continued into Saturday morning, with Microsoft subsequently warning of issues with publishing and purchasing games and launching cloud gaming sessions. In addition, Microsoft acknowledged that some users also had difficulty cutting access to streaming apps like Netflix and Disney+ earlier.
Microsoft only claimed to have fully resolved Friday’s outage at 1 p.m. Saturday, about three hours before user complaints began to surge again.
