On your Xiaomi smartphone, a hidden feature of MIUI allows you to blur the preview of apps in the recent apps menu. I’ll show you how in this quick tutorial.
In MIUI 13 or any other Android interface, when you scroll your finger from the bottom of the screen to the middle of the screen and hold, you will access the recent apps menu. For those who don’t use gesture navigation, this is the menu that appears when you tap the three-line “hamburger” button at the bottom.
In this menu you can see a carousel of all your recently opened apps, each with an overview. But imagine you’re casting your screen on a connected TV with your friends, or you’re showing something to your parents or spouse on your smartphone.

If you don’t want your loved ones to stumble upon your “folder” photos or very private messages, you can decide to blur the preview of one or more apps of your choice. That’s it:
- On your home screen, pinch the screen and pressgear icon access Home screen settings
- Press the button more
- press Blur app preview
- Select the app whose preview you want to blur
You can choose which apps to blur or not. / © kwgeek
Blurred apps will continue to appear in the recent apps menu. But what they preview will be completely unreadable.
That’s all for this quick tutorial to optimize your user experience on Xiaomi. What do you think of this trick of MIUI? Do you find it useful?
