Zepp, the company behind Amazfit, put its T-Rex 2 smartwatch to the extreme. The team behind the stunt used a helium-filled balloon to lift the smartwatch from Earth until it reached a level close to the vacuum of space, to see if it could survive the icy temperatures and enormous pressure.
- Zepp sends its rugged Amazfit T-Rex 2 smartwatch nearly 35 kilometers off the ground
- Smartwatch has withstood freezing temperatures and near-vacuum pressure
- Amazfit T-Rex 2 with dual-frequency GPS and 15 military standards for 230 euros
Zepp wants to demonstrate the resistance of its Amazfit T-Rex 2 watch in tests that exceed the advertised performance (-40 degrees and 10 ATM resistance). During testing, the smartwatch reached a record height of 34,553 meters. At this level, temperatures reached minus 64 degrees Celsius (-64°C), while atmospheric pressure peaked at 0.9 hectopascals (hPa), a far cry from standard sea level of 1013 hPa.

The second-generation smartwatch offers ultra-low temperature capabilities and improved multi-band navigation while maintaining the T-Rex Pro military-grade standard. Additionally, it has a screen and a larger battery capacity than its predecessor. Zepp wanted to shine in this test, and the results were amazing.
The Amazfit T-Rex 2 was on throughout the flight, including when it landed at 214 km/h. The team used dual-frequency GPS, which supports a system of five satellites, to track the plane as it fell to the ground.
