As we wait patiently for the next-generation GT to arrive, AMG has teased yet another sports car created in collaboration with pop artist and entrepreneur Will.I.Am. The teaser shows off a G-Class face and the silhouette of a two-door coupe in an unconventional fashion. The model will debut on May 5 as a one-off special designed to raise funds for school engineering projects.
AMG and Will.I.Am shared some teasers on Instagram showing some parts of the vehicle. The ultimate highlight is the front end, inspired by the G-Class with its round LED headlights, boxy nose and AMG-style bumper air intakes. Putting the face of a rugged SUV on a low-slung sports car is something we can only imagine seeing in renderings, but as it’s said, Will.I.AMG actually exists in real life as a full-size model .

The shape is another matter, the roofline looks similar to the current AMG GT, and the rear end “borrows” from the AMG GT 4-door, including the boot and LED taillights. When we cranked up the brightness in the official teaser, the proportions seemed a bit muddled, with long overhangs and a short wheelbase. However, the video trailer does more justice to the unique creation of a pair of suicide doors, angular surfaces and SLR-style air vents on the front fenders.
According to Will.I.Am’s official website, he “built a car for Mercedes-AMG that will help fund engineering projects in inner-city schools and prepare our young people for the technologies of tomorrow” . Hopefully we’ll learn more about the basics of this custom build in a few days, as we’re curious what kind of engine is under the hood.
Will.I.Am is no stranger to custom vehicles, but surprisingly, his collaboration with AMG resulted in a sports car bearing the official Mercedes-AMG branding. Regardless, we’re guessing the Will.I.AMG will remain strictly a one-off, similar to last year’s Project Maybach x Virgil Abloh concept.
