Apple’s Self-Repair Service Now Available
U.S. customers can now buy genuine Apple parts and tools
CUPERTINO, CA Apple today announced the launch of Self Repair Service, which provides repair manuals and genuine Apple parts and tools through Apple Self Repair Shops. Do-it-yourself repairs are available in the US and will expand to other countries later this year – starting in Europe.
The new online store offers over 200 individual parts and tools, enabling customers experienced in the complexities of repairing electronic devices to complete repairs on the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 series and iPhone SE (3rd generation), such as display, battery, and camera. Later this year, the program will also include manuals, parts and tools for repairing Mac computers using Apple chips.
To initiate the self-service repair process, customers will first view the repair manual for the product they want to repair by visiting support.apple.com/self-service-repair. They can then visit an Apple Self Repair Shop and order the necessary parts and tools.
Every Genuine Apple part is designed and manufactured for every product and undergoes extensive testing to ensure the highest quality, safety and reliability. These parts are the same as those available from the Apple Authorized Repair Provider network for the same price. For certain repairs, customers will earn points when they return replacement parts for recycling.
Self-repair shops provide customers with the same Apple tools used by the Apple Repair Network. They are custom-designed to help provide the best possible repair service for Apple products, and are engineered to withstand the rigors of high-volume professional repair operations where safety and reliability are paramount. High-quality tools from Self Service Repair include torque drivers, service trays, monitors, and battery presses.
Apple is offering $49 tool rental kits so that customers who don’t want to buy tools for a single repair can still use these professional repair tools. One-week rental kits will be shipped to customers free of charge.
Self-service repairs are part of Apple’s efforts to further expand repair coverage. For the vast majority of customers who have no experience repairing electronic equipment, visiting a professional repair supplier with certified technicians using genuine Apple parts is the safest and most reliable way to repair.
Over the past three years, Apple has nearly doubled the number of repair locations with access to genuine Apple parts, tools and training, including more than 3,000 independent repair providers. A global network of more than 5,000 Apple Authorized Service Providers supports more than 100,000 working technicians. Thus, in the US, 8 out of 10 Apple customers are within 20 minutes of an authorized service provider.
Also today, Apple published a paper titled “Expanding Access to Safe, Reliable, and Safe Service and Repairs,” detailing Apple’s approach to designing products that last and increasing access to repairs.
