Since the delayed launch of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 a few weeks ago, those good Switch ‘Pro’ rumors are back in vogue. As the new footage drops with news of the delay, so does the discussion about how good it looks. In their weekly discussion, the team at Digital Foundry recently came up with these lovely visuals.Looks like Breath of the Wild 2 is running particularly smoothly – maybe too smooth.
The DF lads go on to discuss skepticism that Breath of the Wild 2 could be a cross-gen game that straddles current hardware and a Switch successor – just like Breath of the Wild did with the previous generation That way. After some very enthusiastic reports from certain corners of the internet, this week they reiterated no, No That means BOTW2 won’t be coming to Switch.
In last week’s video, Digital Foundry’s question was “Does this really work on Switch?” The discussion revolved around cloud, anti-aliasing, and comparisons to the Xbox Series S and X. In this week’s episode (below), the team — led by the awesome Richard Leadbetter — reiterates that no, BOTW2 isn’t “too big” for the Switch. John Linnemann added that the group was “basically talking about how the trailer could be rendered at a higher resolution, and that’s it”. Check out their new discussion below:

It’s not uncommon to see game trailers rendered above the definition of gameplay (even though Nintendo rarely ups the resolution of trailers), so seeing Link exploring these beautifully rendered worlds is clearly not affected by the Switch’s sometimes-shaky performance. The DF team’s discussion is an educated guess — Nintendo could also use new technology to help their cloud look puffier.
Regardless, it’s clear that Nintendo will push the Switch to its limits. The console is doing very well in the sales department and shows no signs of slowing down, so a new system was replaced Now It would be weird from a purely business perspective – we brought this up in our talking points last week, sparked by discussions at Digital Foundry. Then again, maybe the console landscape will be different a year from now.
If the reports surrounding DF’s initial review still have you in the hype for the Switch 2, Inverse did some research and found out – surprise! – Many experts agree that Breath of the Wild 2 will still be released on the current Switch. Whodathunkit.
So, no, while Breath of the Wild 2 is undoubtedly an ambitious game and will definitely test the Switch to the max, we can still expect to see it on current-gen consoles.
