If turnover is in focus, operating profit is also not excluded, as it amounts to 1 billion euros. According to Electronic Arts, 12 games generated more than $100 million in revenue across all platforms throughout the year. As was the case a few years ago, two monsters are doing well: Apex Legends, whose revenue is growing 40% annually, and FIFA 22, considered the series’ biggest success at this stage. Electronic Arts claims 580 million active accounts (up 16%) and 150 million players participating in the FIFA franchise (including FIFA Mobile and FIFA Online 4 in Asia).
Electronic Arts Achievement
period | turnover | operating profit | net income |
---|---|---|---|
April 2020 – March 2021 | 5.3 billion euros | 993 million euros | 795 million euros |
April 2021 – March 2022 | 6.6 billion euros | 1 billion euros | 749 million euros |
Electronic Arts has a pretty tight schedule for its just-started fiscal year, but isn’t revealing all its secrets. After F1 22, which will be released on July 1, FIFA 23, Madden NFL 23 and NHL 23 will serve as animations each summer before the Need for Speed franchise returns for its final season.
But the most interesting is the first quarter of 2023, during which EA plans to release no fewer than 4 games outside of the PGA Tour. The first is based on the big license (Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2?), the second is being developed by a partner studio (the next EA Originals are yet to be revealed), the third is a remake (Dead Space?) and finally A sports match (UFC 5?).
On mobile, the heroes of Electronic Arts, Apex Legends Mobile and The Lord of the Rings: Middle-earth are expected to be one of the current major priorities this year. Andrew Wilson also mentioned the case of Battlefield, whose testing is underway and could be released between late 2022 and early 2023. After the Battlefield 2042 rout, Electronic Arts explained that it didn’t want to rush things. Great idea, hey.
