If you collect enough coins in this cursed world, and the Ferrari people like you enough, then eventually you can sit back and let them build you a car – a Ferrari unique to you and your taste ——I think it is the most classic version, modified. That’s the case with the SP48 Unica, which has no rear window and smaller side windows, is a one-off, and gives the impression that it’s been cut from a single piece of metal.
Of course not, Ferrari says it’s actually based on the F8 Tributo, which also uses the F8 Tributo’s twin-turbo V8. What exactly has changed in the F8 Tributo? Ferrari says the headlights are different as well as the brake air intakes, front grille and engine air intakes. As for removing the rear window and shrinking the side windows, Ferrari says it’s done to “stand out” [its] Strong muscles,” of course.
Ferrari wants you – sorry, wants its customers – You know, really, it did a lot of work on this car, it’s not just any old F8.
The thermo-hydrodynamic design of the SP48 Unica has been honed and refined to ensure all cooling requirements are met, in addition to offering different aerodynamic balances. The biggest changes compared to the F8 Tributo’s styling include air intakes to cool the engine under the front bumper and rear spoiler. Each has a deep programmed grille, and each section is optimally angled to maximize the amount of air that passes through. The car’s configuration also allowed engineers to place the intercooler air intakes behind the side windows, which in turn allowed them to reduce the size of the flank air intakes. The longer rear overhang reduces suction from the roof area, which increases downforce at the rear.
Ferrari also says the interior is more or less the same as the F8, aside from the whole thing without a rear window and various modifications to the trim. Really, what happens with these one-offs is that some rich person commissions a new piece of art and does a real service to the community because we can all see it and shout for it.
From the client’s point of view, I would be wary of my own failures, as Ferrari puts it, “long-term” clients are “deeply involved in every step of their creation”, and I think like a person might be involved with an architect to build you a new house. Some people really like this kind of thing, while others prefer to trust the pros, because do I really think about things they didn’t think of? Just give me a normal F8 Spider. Yes, red.
