Copenhagen-based studio PortaPlay has just formalized the fall release of its future narrative game, a hybrid RPG dedicated to honoring the anonymous heroes and heroines of the Danish occupation. The game prefers an intimate filter to a battlefield, and the game’s protagonist is Gerda, a young nurse who, when she returns from the pharmacy, finds that her husband, a member of the local resistance, has just been arrested by the Gestapo. From the files and resources they can find, players can develop the heroine’s personality based on certain targeted skills and make choices that are crucial for her and her family’s survival.
As its project manager Hans von Knut Skovfoged points out, the game is designed to question players who face a special and extreme moral situation, which consists of dilemmas and compromises:” and Gerda, we wish to share a fair view on some of the hardships endured by civilians under occupation at the time; but also highlight some of the judgment-defying decisions some may have faced. Through this narrative game, we hope to encourage the sharing of testimonies. From a civilian perspective, many stories were untold in times of war, and we know that many people around the world live like that today. We’re excited to tell at least one such story, Gerda: The Fire of Winter. “
There are no new trailers for the occasion. All of a sudden, we’ve got you the last one released last December, along with new visuals.
