Honor has just launched a series of new smartphones in China, the Honor 70, Honor 70 Pro and Honor 70 Pro+. These high-end smartphones are designed for mobile photography and introduce the new Sony IMX800 sensor.
- These 3 smartphones run on Android 12 and will offer Google services in Europe
- Honor 70 powered by Snapdragon 778G SoC, Pro and Pro+ versions powered by MediaTek Dimensity chip
- Honor 70, Honor 70 Pro and Honor 70 Pro+ are available in China, priced at 2699, 3699 and 4299 yuan, or 378, 518 and 602 euros respectively, excluding tax
Honor’s three new camera phones have only been released in China for now, but they should be coming to Europe via Google services soon.
A new Sony photo sensor and SoC with less overheating
Honor puts a special emphasis on photography and integrates the new Sony IMX800 sensor into the photo modules of the three Honor 70s. The sensor has a 54 MP resolution and a physical size of 1/1.49″ which isn’t huge, but still slightly larger than what you’ll find on some current flagships. For example, the Samsung Galaxy S22 has a primary sensor size of 1/1.56″ .
Combined with a 50 MP ultra-wide-angle lens with a large 122° field of view (FOV), the sensor can also be used as a macro sensor. However, the Honor 70 Pro and Honor 70 Pro+ retain the exclusivity of the 8 MP telephoto lens capable of 3x optical zoom and 30x digital zoom.
The base Honor 70 comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G SoC, a mid-to-high-end chip designed for gaming. But the Pro and Pro+ versions integrate MediaTek processors, the Dimensity 8000 for the Honor 70 Pro and the Dimensity 9000 for the Honor 70 Pro+. That’s good news on paper, as these chips are less prone to overheating than Qualcomm’s high-end SoCs.
The Honor 70s runs on Magic UI 6.1 with a manufacturer based overlay of Android 12. In China, it logically does not have Google services due to the state censorship practiced there. But if smartphones come out in Europe one day, they will obviously come with the famous GMS. However, the manufacturer does not make any guarantees about the update policy.
In terms of design, the Honor 70 is a high-end smartphone that logically has a very premium look, with symmetrical stripes on the back, very shiny colors, but there are also more sober variants. All three smartphones in the collection are available in 5 colors: Midnight Black, Crystal Silver, Emerald Green, Frosted Gold and Icelandic Cream.
What do you think of the new Honor 70s? Do you want to see them land in France?
