This week marked Splatoon 3’s 3 million box sales mark and remains firmly at the top of the charts. Remember, counting downloads, the gaming phenomenon has achieved a record 3.5 million releases, unprecedented in Japanese history.
For a port of the 2017 game that was already selling well on other platforms, NieR Automata: The End of YoRHa Edition did quite well, selling just over 30,000 Switch copies. Of course, PlatinumGames can look forward to more of the much-anticipated Witcher 3, which will be released at the end of the month. Undervalued by Square Enix at launch, Dragon Quest X Offline is slowly returning to color, now selling over 255,000 copies on Switch and PS4.
In terms of console sales, it was a classic week for the Switch (62,100 not enforced), but bearish for a new generation of consoles. The Nintendo console in good shape has sold 3.5 million units since the start of the year, having passed the 4 million mark in the same period last year.
While we’re seeing a significant improvement in PS5 availability across much of the world, Japan seems to have to wait for its turn, with just 5,546 consoles eating up this week. Pause is also relevant to the Xbox Series, and its triple-digit score takes us back to the dark days of the Xbox One.
