Update: Thanks to user Wilcoblok, just hours after Porsche shared a teaser video on social media that hinted at the new 911 Sport Classic, along with an official photo purportedly showing the rear end of the car, it appeared on Instagram. The car has the same light blue-gray shade as the one being teased, but we now see a ducktail spoiler, gold badges and light brown seats inside. Apparently, more photos of the car have been posted to Cochespias here and here.
The 50th anniversary of Porsche’s legendary 911 Carrera RS 2.7 is approaching, so the German automaker is rumored to be preparing another 911 Sport Classic model to commemorate it. We’ve seen prototypes of this car floating around, all but confirming its existence, but now it looks like Porsche itself may have teased it.
The teaser comes from a video shared to Porsche’s Instagram Stories with the caption: “Shadows of the past. Stay tuned”. The shade they’re referring to is a light bluish gray called Sport Classic Grey, which can be seen on the 2009 911 Sport Classic briefly featured in the video.

More importantly, though, in the video we can see the new 911 in the aforementioned colors. These include a quick glance at the headlight area, a peek at the 911’s characteristic window shape, and a brief glimpse of the hood, which appears to have white racing stripes with blue accents.
Another part of the video shows a painter applying these stripes to the hood, with a 992 trunk lid and a protruding ducktail spoiler in the background, a definition of the original Carrera RS 2.7 and 2009 Sport Classic feature. Aside from the spoiler, the new 911 Sport Classic is expected to feature the same tunnel-style hood, widened fenders, double-bubble roof and Fuchs-style wheels as the previous Sport Classic, with the rest of the styling largely borrowed from the current 911 Turbo S.

Power is expected to come from the Carrera GTS’s 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine producing 473 hp (480 hp/352 kW) and 420 lb-ft (569 Nm) of torque. The car is also likely to be available with rear-wheel drive, a manual transmission and significant weight savings, with the same focus on driver engagement as the last Sport Classic.

There’s no official date yet as to when the car will be released (the teaser just says “stay tuned”), but if the car is really what most people expect it’s a tribute to the 50 of the 1973 Carrera RS 2.7 anniversary, then this year’s reveal and a 2023 release will make that a reality.
