A new month means new choices PS plus Games (and more for other services). Many were hoping that May’s games would honor April’s picks, and while that may not be exactly the case, May 2022’s PS Plus free games are at least a little better.By June 7, fans will be able to claim FIFA 22 (PS5/PS4), Midgard Tribe (PS5/PS4), and Death’s curse (PS4).
But big changes are coming. PS Plus subscribers will be able to upgrade and get PS Plus Extra or PS Plus Premium in June 2022. At the top level, players can not only check out some of the top PS4/PS5 games for free, but also have access to over 700 games from the PS1, PS2, PSP and PS3 eras. PlayStation game demos can also be added, and PS Plus Premium includes a lot—even if the cost is debatable.

PS Plus Free Games May 2022 & April 2022
But before delving into next month and why fans can expect some great PS Plus free games in June 2022, it’s worth taking a look at the past few months. May 2022 is better than April 2022, but it still falls under some common pitfalls. FIFA 22, for example, is a motion simulator. These typically don’t perform well on subscription services, simply because they’re released annually, and diehard fans usually choose them when they’re released, rather than waiting for them months later. Simultaneously, Midgard Tribe and Death’s curse are good games, but their appeal is limited. If someone doesn’t like their unique graphics, dungeon-crawling mechanics, or roguelike features, these two games probably aren’t for them.
At least, there’s more general appeal there than April 2022’s PS Plus free-to-play games.these are Hood: Outlaw and Legend, Slay the Spireand SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle of the Bikini Bottoms – Hydrate.kill the spire Probably the best game out there, but at the same time, its card mechanics will prevent many players from viewing it. Hood: Outlaw and Legend is a multiplayer game that’s usually popular on subscription services, but it doesn’t really get the hits it deserves.then there is SpongeBob SquarePantsthis is apart from the Nickelodeon ties as a whole, the original game is more Hydrate It’s version, that is to say.
While the last two months have been lackluster for PS Plus subscribers (though the whole of PS Plus in 2022 is weird), there’s one main reason to expect the PS Plus free-to-play in June 2022 to be pretty good.
Why PS Plus free games in June 2022 could be really great
In short, Sony has been very good at leveraging its PS Plus service as a hype maker when it needs to. Not only are there remakes or games in announcements ahead of the sequel, but the entire PS Plus is being used to market the PS5. Not that it needs more, but PS Plus certainly helps sell the PlayStation experience.

In the months leading up to the PS5’s release, the PS Plus has been on fire, month after month. Major PS5 games were added to the PS Plus service at PS5 launch, with several added in early 2021, eventually slowing to three games.
Its effectiveness in promoting the PS5 cannot be underestimated. That’s why it makes sense for Sony to support PS Plus itself with its PS Plus Essentials free games selection. If fans see good games on PS Plus Essentials in June 2022 (probably a few months from now), that will make PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium Tier even more appealing. If the entry level is exciting, many would argue that the most expensive level might be worth it. Sure, it can market itself with backwards compatible libraries and all that, but it has to keep showing new additions to keep subscribers on board. In any case, the best thing to do right now is to play free with PS Plus.
Why PS Plus free games in June 2022 may not set a new standard
It makes sense for Sony to pursue this path, but it’s also a double-edged sword. There are concerns that if this happens, it will only be temporary. This is actually the law of diminishing returns. The better a PS Plus game comes out, the more subscribers it is likely to retain or bring. But at some point, the price and effort put into the PS Plus Essentials tier won’t be worth it, and Sony will have to really push the tier higher.
So in the long run, PS Plus monthly free games may be affected by higher tiers. That remains to be seen, but if 2022’s PS Plus free games have proved anything so far, it’s that it’s not going to get better every month. Sony has reasons to make it even better in June or even a few months from now, but like Xbox Games with Gold and Game Pass, PS Plus free games could be subject to more interesting subscription tiers.
