It’s not an easy exercise to freak you out for hours instead of endlessly looping on the same technique. Just look at the many terrifying products that have hit the market in recent years: few have been able to escape the soft underbelly of the market, like an alien eager to peck at its first space colonizer. From the very beginning, Madison gave us the feel of a game made by petoche lovers, feeding on perverse and bloody balls, and the most prestigious video game reference in the genre. We’re not mistaken: Bloodious Games founder Alexis Di Stefano – whose name has been hailed tenfold in the game’s accolades – has loudly and unequivocally declared his undaunted love of horror in all its forms, and from him Start when you are young. But enthusiasm for stimulation isn’t the only guarantee of success when one tries to scare one’s own peers, and Madison is a textbook case of effectively produced, but a little too calibrated for its own sake.
