A salient fact emerges immediately in this June message. Aside from the fact that no one can replace it, Elden Ring isn’t just about remaining the best-selling game. FromSoftware’s action RPG is now one of the 10 best-selling games of all eras and platforms in U.S. video game history, based on revenue. An unlikely but very real statistic, this continues to make Elden Ring an undeniable phenomenon in 2022.
That shouldn’t stop us from mentioning some of the new features this month, starting with Mario Striker: Battle League Soccer taking the podium, while Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes settles for the bottom spot.
In the absence of major releases, we can observe some interesting returns, starting with Overwatch, however last month at No. 95, which we haven’t seen in this table since October 2019 . There’s no doubt that Blizzard’s games will benefit from the enthusiasm generated by the Overwatch 2 beta.
Another very good return was Final Fantasy 7 Remake, which broke into the top 10, and Square Enix’s action RPG at No. 159 in last month’s rankings. The announcement surrounding Final Fantasy VII’s 25th anniversary drove a resounding comeback, but what was undoubtedly more special was its release on Steam.
The return of Monster Hunter Rise doesn’t need to look too far, either, benefiting from the launch of the Sunbreak expansion, jumping from No. 30 to No. 13. The Switch version of Demon Slayer: Chronicles of Hino, which ranked 56th last month, also got a second wind. We don’t really expect to be able to say the same about Evil Dead: The Game, a true shooting star that has been in the top 20 for a month.
Horizon Forbidden West and Gran Turismo 7 are no longer in the top 20, unlike MLB The Show 22, despite a big month for the PlayStation 5 (the console we’re talking about a little further down the line). Still in line with console stock, Marvel’s Spider-Man: On the other hand, Miles Morales has re-pointed the tip of his nose (28th last month). PlayStation Studios games also accounted for half of the platform’s top 10.
If things remain gloomy on the console side, the PS5 is able to regain its color, allowing the manufacturer to end its fiscal quarter on a good note. The PS5 was the console that generated the largest turnover in June and since the beginning of the year, thanks to a significant improvement in inventory. There’s no bigger sales than the Switch, which still led the way in sales for the full year in June.

Something else to know →
- In terms of its release, Diablo Immortal joins well-known headliners like Candy Crush Saga, Clash of Clans, Roblox, and Pokémon GO as one of the top 10 highest-grossing mobile games in June 2022.
- The black DualSense was the best-selling accessory in June, but the Xbox Elite Series 2 remains the best-selling accessory so far this year.
- If Take-Two Interactive hadn’t stopped advertising its download sales, Quarry would no doubt be in a better position. As proof, Supermassive Games’ game was even the most downloaded game on the PlayStation Store in June, so it performed well in its dematerialized form.
June 2022 U.S. Monthly Rankings
Including downloads, this value ranking is based on revenue rather than sales. As a reminder, Nintendo and Take-Two Interactive games are penalized for these publishers not sharing their download sales with NPD. Finally, downloads from subscriptions like PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass obviously don’t count as sales, just as free games aren’t affected by these rankings.
