Someone is working on a proper Need for Speed 2 remake in Unreal Engine 4 and it looks pretty impressive and has a lot of features.
Many fans consider the second subterranean entry in the Need for Speed franchise to be the best entry in the series, and one devoted fan is currently working on his own fan remake of the game. The fan remake was created by YouTuber ‘Ivan Novozhilov’ and comes with many features that made the original game stand out, including a soundtrack from Underground games. In addition, this remake includes optimized visuals, optimized weather cycles, new textures, improved steering, suspension compression sounds, car turbo and nitrogen, optimized automatic transmission and clutch, and more.
We’ve included 10 minutes of gameplay of this impressive project below, along with a list of features currently included in this work-in-progress project:
FeaturesNeed for Speed Underground 2 Fan Remake UE4
car:
-turbine
-nitrous (not used here)
– Earn NOS by doing things (airflight, power glide, almost crash…)
– Brand new steering.
-Optimized automatic transmission and clutch
– Fixed slip rate (no more stuttering)
– Crash sounds and sparks
– Suspended compression sound
– Engine sound done except two. Analysis tools are not good enough for them. Maybe someone knows someone who can re-edit the file so it works again. At least we now have proper engine sound.
-sweetner (heard backfires)
– Turbo, sweetener, engine, transmission sounds are done and picked based on performance upgrades.
– Greatly changed driving behavior. It’s still in production and has a lot of tweaking, largely depending on slip angle and traction, values that change based on speed to allow for quirky driving behavior and good drifting at low speeds. Depending on the game mode, this could change drastically in the future.
area:
– Audio area
– Reverb area
– Named area
– Each island has a unique color.
Graphics:
– Optimized graphics for better performance and overall more
Please see.
– Optimized weather cycle
– new textures
– Added more missing meshes
Miscellaneous:
– Traffic node system (you can’t see it but it’s there)
– More optimized camera shake
– Improved radial motion blur
– Destructible environments (signs, buckets…)
– Music from UG1, UG2, MW is performed. You can also skip tracks or go back to tracks (QOL hack 🙂 )
– whoosh
– New camera lag and rotation (lag)
User Interface:
– Drift score counter + nice message
– Drift Zones (these blue red and white striped decals) are used for additional multipliers as well as the speed of the drift score.
– The menu is in the works and is partially working, but not shown here.
Overall, this gameplay looks spectacular and delivers what fans of the original game loved. It remains to be seen whether this fan remake will be released to the public, but depending on the authenticity of the project, the project could face a cease and desist from EA.
