Ubisoft has shut down online services for 90 games across multiple platforms. Games will still remain playable, and each game’s offline features should still function properly.
Ubisoft noted that in-game news and player stats for each affected game have also been disabled. Units and challenges have been disabled for any game using the Ubisoft Connect service. What Ubisoft describes as “ULC” (unlockable content), such as additional maps or skins in all affected games, have also been disabled, with no new ways to unlock them. PC players who have previously unlocked such content will be locked out, while console players will still be able to enjoy the unlocked content unless the save game file for that particular game is reset.
The full list of games includes many beloved and critically acclaimed titles, from single-player games like Assassin’s Creed 2 to multiplayer games like Rainbow Six Vegas and its sequels. A long list of Just Dance games also lost online functionality.
While some games simply lost their platform-specific servers – games like Just Dance 2016 to Just Dance 2018 just lost online support for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii, they are still available on Playing U online on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Wii — others, like Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2, lost online support entirely. Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is losing online functionality on PC, while Splinter Cell: Dual Agent will lose its online component on all available platforms.
Ubisoft has not provided a reason for shutting down online services for the affected games. A full list of Ubisoft games and their respective platforms losing online functionality can be found in Ubisoft’s official Help article on the topic.
