When will this long-awaited update finally arrive?
The Samsung Galaxy Watch4 is the best Android smartwatch we’ve seen, and it looks like it just got better: Google Assistant support has been confirmed to be coming to the Galaxy Watch4 soon. While the Watch 4 already gets voice assistant support through Samsung’s own Bixby, users’ desire for a Google alternative has been strong. We’re still not sure when it will land, but Google Assistant has taken center stage in an ad for the new Galaxy Watch4 posted on Samsung’s Spanish-language YouTube channel.
Last week, Verizon updated its Watch4 support page, announcing a new system update that offers Google Assistant integration. The information has been removed from the page, and Google confirmed that Assistant support has not actually been rolled out yet.

The key word here, however, is apparently “yet,” as Samsung’s new ad shows a man pulling up the assistant via “Hey Google” to ask his Galaxy Watch4 to play YouTube music. While Assistant only takes up 3 seconds out of a 15-second ad, it’s clearly the standout feature here (spotted by 9to5 Google).
Samsung has been saying Google Assistant is “coming soon” since February, and the question is more about “when” than “if.” Considering that Google I/O will be held early next month, it’s probably not surprising to expect something official to happen by then.
You can currently download Samsung’s latest update on the Watch4 or Watch4 Classic, but the Google Assistant app needed to actually run is still unavailable.
